Research Canvas Competition

In the spirit of improving scientific communication skills and to create a platform that encourages more collaborative efforts among experts and non-experts, UTM Library and Springer Nature are thrilled to invite all researchers (staffs and students) to participate in our Research Canvas Competition in conjunction with  WOW Carnival @ UTM Library which will be held on 29 – 31 October.

What is Research Canvas?
Research canvas is a visualization of your research in the form of charts, pictures, drawings, images, and graphs – either created with the help of computers, cameras and other devices or those created by hand.
What Should I Highlight in My Research Canvas?
Your research canvas MUST include the followings:

  • the key challenge(s) you are attempting to solve in the society,
  • the key message(s) of your research/work and
  • propose solutions/findings to solve those challenge(s).
Who are Qualified to Join?
  • Students with active final year projects
  • Masters & PhD students who are currently conducting their research and are close to their completion
  • Researchers who are still actively working on solutions for the betterment of society
  • Lecturers, staff of anyone within the academic field who feels that they have something valuable to share about what they are currently working on in the university.
Terms and Conditions
  1. Participation is by individual basis. Only one entry per person. Any person submitting more than one entry may be disqualified.
  2. Research canvas is a visualization of your research in the form of charts, pictures, drawings, images, and graphs – either created with the help of computers, cameras and other devices or those created by hand.
  3. Research canvas must highlight:
    • the key challenges you are attempting to solve in the society,
    • the key message of your research/work and
    • propose solutions/findings to solve those challenges.
  4. The research canvas must be submitted in ONE printed/hard copy format (Dimension: A1 size – 23.4×33.1 inch). Softcopy/digital format will not be accepted.
  5. Each research canvas must be accompanied by this form – Research Canvas Competition – Registration Form
  6. Submit your research canvas along with the above form, LATEST BY 3.00pm, 25 OCTOBER 2018, in person, to :
    • Organizing Committee,
    • UTM Library Carnival 2018,
    • Bangunan Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah Johor Bahru (PSZ JB),
    • Perpustakaan UTM Johor Bahru

  7. Once submitted, the research canvas will be the property of the organizers and the organizers have the rights to publish or to reprint in all kind of publication for purpose of promotion or others.
  8. The research canvas will be displayed during UTM Library Carnival held from 29 – 31 October 2018.
  9. An independent panel of judges will evaluate the submissions based on the criteria below:
    • Ease of understanding and clarity of message being portrayed of the overall ‘project’
    • Semantics of the understanding compared to the description of the ‘project’ that was originally submitted
    • Originality and creativity of the design, ‘eye catcher’ and uniqueness of ideas
    • Overall quality of the presentation of the research canvas.
  10. Judges decisions are final.
  11. Award of prizes will be on 31 October 2018 (the winners of the competition will be notified by email).
