Johor Bahru, February 24, 2025 – Perpustakaan Sultanah Zanariah (PSZ), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized the AI Tools for Academic Writing for Librarians course to enhance librarians’ understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in academic writing.
The course began with a session on “Introduction to AI Tools for Thesis Writing,” introducing participants to various AI software and platforms that assist in thesis writing. These tools help in organizing ideas, checking grammar, and generating content based on academic references.
Following the morning break, the session continued with “Hands-on AI-Powered Thesis Assistance,” where participants had the opportunity to experience AI applications firsthand. They explored how AI can assist in structuring theses, drafting initial content, and ensuring adherence to academic writing standards.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to “Introduction to AI Tools for Journal Article Writing,” highlighting how AI can support journal article writing. Participants were introduced to AI-powered tools for sourcing references, crafting concise abstracts, and automating bibliography organization.
The course concluded with a “Hands-on AI-Powered Journal Article Assistance” session, where participants practiced using AI to systematically structure journal articles, identify technical errors, and analyze data to enhance the quality of academic writing.
Through this program, librarians gained valuable insights into AI technology, equipping them to better support researchers and students in producing high-quality and efficient academic writing.
