October 2025 marked one of the most impactful months for UTM Library’s User Education initiatives. In close collaboration with the UTM Language Academy, the Library conducted seven Research Information Literacy classes, successfully engaging an impressive 2,637 students. This large-scale effort reflects UTM’s commitment to strengthening academic readiness and supporting students with essential research competencies.
The sessions were designed to guide students through the fundamentals of finding, evaluating, and using scholarly resources effectively. Participants learned how to navigate UTM Library’s extensive digital platforms, utilise academic databases, and apply strategic searching techniques to locate credible and relevant information for their assignments, projects, and assessments under the Language Academy.
A key focus of the October sessions was improving students’ ability to distinguish between academic and non-academic sources, interpret research articles, and apply information ethically in their writing. Hands-on demonstrations enabled students to practise keyword refinement, explore subject-specific materials, and familiarise themselves with online tools that support academic success. Many students appreciated the practical examples aligned with their coursework, particularly those involving reading, writing, and critical analysis skills taught under the Academy.
The collaboration with the Language Academy ensured that the sessions complemented classroom learning, reinforcing information literacy as a core academic skill. The joint effort provided a seamless experience for students, integrating library research skills directly into their language and communication curriculum.
Feedback from participants and instructors highlighted the value of the program, noting increased confidence in handling research-related tasks and improved understanding of academic sources. The scale and impact of these sessions demonstrate the Library’s dedication to supporting student achievement at every level.
UTM Library will continue expanding its collaborative efforts with faculties and academic centres.
