On October 16, 2024, the UTM Library Kuala Lumpur (PZSKL), in collaboration with the Research Management Centre (RMC) UTMKL successfully organized a workshop titled Publish with Precision: E-Tools for High-Impact Research. Held in Seminar Room 2, the event attracted 32 participants, including students, lecturers, and research officers, all eager to enhance their research productivity through digital tools and technologies. The workshop also had the privilege of welcoming Professor Madya Ts. Dr. Mohamad Zaki bin Hassan, Administrative Director of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UTMKL.
The workshop was facilitated by distinguished guest speakers, Dr. S. Indran from Alliance University, Bengaluru, and Dr. P. Senthamaraikannan from K.S.R. College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu. They guided participants through a range of essential tools and techniques applicable to various stages of the research process. Attendees gained valuable insights into expediting and enhancing their research quality, including sessions on search and discovery, academic writing, referencing, and plagiarism detection. The day commenced with an engaging session on search and discovery tools, highlighting platforms such as Google Journal Finder, Microsoft Academic Search, and Google Scholar Tricks. These tools provided participants with advanced strategies for effectively locating academic literature and patents.
The subsequent sessions introduced participants to a suite of tools designed to streamline and enhance various aspects of the research process. Grammarly and Quillbot were highlighted for improving writing quality, while OriginLab and Microsoft Visio were showcased for their advanced graphing and visualization capabilities. For referencing, participants explored the powerful features of Mendeley and EndNote, both essential for managing citations and bibliographies. Adding to the excitement, the speakers unveiled the potential of AI tools like Gamma, broadening participants’ understanding of how artificial intelligence can support research tasks. Renowned for creating high-quality, AI-powered presentations, Gamma was demonstrated as an innovative tool for visualizing and presenting research findings, effectively communicating complex data.
The collaboration with RMC UTMKL underscores UTM Library’s dedication to cultivating a culture of research excellence. Through this partnership, UTM Library and RMC aim to provide continuous support to the UTM research community, particularly by equipping researchers with essential tools and skills for high-impact publishing.
The program concluded with a Q&A session, providing participants an opportunity to seek additional guidance from the speakers. Feedback obtained revealed attendees’ appreciation for the hands-on approach and practical knowledge gained, which they found helpful for advancing their studies.
