Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Library Kuala Lumpur began in 1972 following the establishment of Institut Teknologi Kebangsaan. The library initially started with collections inherited from Maktab Teknik and has continued to grow in line with the university’s academic development.
In 1976, when the institute was upgraded to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the library building underwent renovation and expansion to support the growing academic community. Further developments continued throughout the 1980s, including the completion of a new four-storey library building equipped with improved facilities and learning spaces for users.
In line with UTM’s campus development, part of the library collection was transferred to the main library in Skudai beginning in 1985. By 1988, most collections had been relocated, and the Kuala Lumpur campus library officially became a branch library.
Today, UTM Library Kuala Lumpur supports the teaching, learning and research needs of students, lecturers and researchers from various faculties and academic programmes, including Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS), Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), as well as UTMSPACE.
The library provides access to a wide range of printed and digital resources in the fields of engineering, technology, social sciences and other related disciplines.
In addition to the main library, two branch libraries are located at Razak Tower (Read Cafe@UTMKL) and the MJIIT building, each supporting the academic and research needs of their respective faculties.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Read Cafe@UTMKL is a newly transformed learning and community space at Razak Tower, previously known as the Menara Razak Library. Officially introduced in August 2023, the space was redesigned in line with modern learning trends and user needs, creating a more interactive, flexible and welcoming environment that combines library services with a café concept.

The space continues to support reading and learning activities through a curated general reading collection under the “Reading Station” concept. In addition, Read Cafe@UTMKL also serves as a platform for knowledge-sharing programmes, discussions and community engagement activities.

Users can also access research consultation services provided by librarians, while publications and selected titles from UTM Press are available for sale within the space. Read Cafe@UTMKL reflects UTM Library’s commitment to creating a modern learning environment that encourages collaboration, creativity and lifelong learning.

The Institute of Bioproduct (IBD) Library supports the research and development activities in the fields of interest to IBD and UTM. Various collection of materials such as books, journals, product information files, digital newspapers etc. are available for reference to IBD/UTM staffs and external members.
